Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club, established in 1906 as the Little Coogee Swimming and Life Saving Club, is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. With a rich history in lifesaving and competition achievements, the club takes pride in its past members who have been recognised for their outstanding rescue deeds and Olympic representation.
The primary responsibility of the club's lifesavers is to provide safety to the public and respond to community needs in the Clovelly, Gordon's Bay, and Bronte coastal areas. In addition to lifesaving, the club offers various engagement opportunities through activities such as Nippers (junior surf lifesaving), Eskimos winter swimming, Giles Gym classes, and a junior Swimming Club.
The management committee for 2023/2024 consists of President Susie Peterson, with Vice Presidents Bryce Wilde and Roslyn Manual. Other key positions include Secretary Mark Hetherington, Treasurer Paul Farrugia, Surf Sports Competition Manager Kimmy Rashleigh, and President of Junior Activities (Nippers) Matthew Scott, to name a few. These dedicated individuals ensure the smooth functioning of the club and its various programmes.
Each year, the club recognises outstanding members through a range of awards. In the 2022/2023 season, Paul Farrugia was named Club Person of the Year, Thomas Hetherington received Patrol Person of the Year, and Team 4, captained by Tim Carey, was honoured as Patrol Team of the Year. Other notable award recipients include Kimmy Rashleigh and Philomena Pettit as Competitors of the Year, and the Under 11 Nippers age group, managed by Nicole Hansberry, as Age Group of the Year.
The club also boasts a list of esteemed Life Members who have made significant contributions to the club over the years. Life Membership is not simply awarded for years of service, but rather for the profound impact these individuals have had on the club. These members receive a waiver of all fees and are identified by the Clovelly Life Member badge.
Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club prides itself on its commitment to safety, trust, respect, caring, and responsibility. With a dedicated team, engaging activities, and a rich history, the club continues to serve the community and promote a love for the ocean and lifesaving.
