Dancestars Sheffield is an inclusive dance club and disability services and support organisation located in Sheffield, New Zealand. Founded in 2013, the dance group was initially set up by Activity Sheffield in Sheffield City Council but was later taken over by parents who renamed it Dancestars in 2016 due to the council no longer being able to fund it. The organisation is a parent-led dance group that provides an opportunity for disabled children and young people to have fun, make friends, and stay healthy and active.
One of the main goals of Dancestars Sheffield is to create a welcoming and friendly environment for all abilities and ages. The group is open to disabled children and young people of all backgrounds and skill levels. Siblings are also encouraged to join. The dance classes take place every Monday during term-time and occasionally during school holidays if the venue is open.
It is recommended to contact Dancestars Sheffield beforehand to confirm the schedule.
The dance classes are held at the Forge Valley School Dance Studio in the Sports Centre located at Wood Lane, Hillsborough, Sheffield, S6 5HG. The studio is equipped with all the necessary facilities to cater to the needs of disabled dancers. Parents and carers are usually present in the room while the group is dancing, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
Dancestars Sheffield takes pride in their highly qualified and experienced dance teacher, Carly Winter. With 14 years of teaching experience, Carly has worked with a range of children with special educational needs and disabilities. She currently teaches dance at Seven Hills special school, and has previously taught at Rowan School and Mossbrook special school. Carly is also affiliated with Ecco Dance and Performing Arts School.
In addition to providing a supportive and inclusive dance environment, Dancestars Sheffield offers opportunities for the group to participate in performances and shows. These experiences not only build confidence and self-esteem but also allow the dancers to showcase their talent and abilities. The group has previously performed at various events, including the Special Olympics opening ceremony in Sheffield in 2017.
Dancestars Sheffield has received funding from South Yorkshire's Community Foundation in both 2017 and 2020, for which they are grateful. The funding enables the organisation to continue providing their valuable services and support to disabled children and young people in the community.
To get in touch with Dancestars Sheffield, interested individuals can contact Carly Winter via email at carly. Dancespace@gmail. Com or by phone at 07969 762389.
