The club's history dates back to 1924, and the original design of the golf course was by Ted Ray, the first British Ryder Cup team captain. Ray, a winner of an Open and a US Open, created a course that measured 6,087 yards, which was considered long for a non-links course at the time. Today, the course measures 6,676 yards from the white tees, still the second longest in Suffolk.
