Red Roos is a well-established sports club based in Canberra, ACT. The club welcomes orienteers of all ages and skill levels, providing a supportive and inclusive environment for newcomers to the sport. With a rich history dating back to 1983, Red Roos has grown to become one of the biggest orienteering clubs in Australia, attracting members from across Canberra and beyond.
Red Roos has a long-standing tradition of success at both national and international levels. Many of its members have represented Australia in prestigious events such as the World Championships (WOC), World Cup, World Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) Championships, Junior World Championships (JWOC), and Australian New Zealand Challenges. The club takes pride in its achievements and regularly sends members to compete in the World Masters Orienteering Championships held worldwide.
In terms of club competitions, Red Roos has a track record of excellence. The club has won the Australian Champion Club competition a remarkable 11 times out of 33 since its inception in 1984, making it the most successful club in the competition. In the ACT League, Red Roos consistently dominates the top 10 rankings, with four of their members consistently securing spots in the top 10 from 2013 to 2016. Jo Allison, a Red Roo member, was crowned league champion in 2015 and 2016.
Red Roos is not only focused on competition but also places emphasis on camaraderie and social gatherings. Members enjoy wearing a smart competition uniform and regularly come together for social events. The club also takes pride in its involvement in the orienteering community, with many Red Roos members serving as coaches, officials, and administrators at both the ACT and national levels. In fact, two recent national presidents have hailed from Red Roos.
Aside from organising and participating in numerous events throughout the orienteering year, Red Roos maintains an active online presence. The club has a dedicated Facebook page where members can stay updated on news, results, and upcoming events. Additionally, the Red Roos website features an honour board to recognise the achievements and contributions of its members.
