Blue Lightning Junior Orienteering is a sports club in Canberra dedicated to the development of junior orienteers in the ACT. The club welcomes secondary school students between the ages of 12 and 18, with older members often participating as mentors and younger orienteers from around age 10 transitioning to more difficult courses.
Blue Lightning offers a range of programmes and activities aimed at enhancing the skills and expertise of its junior orienteers. This includes regular training sessions, which provide opportunities for participants to learn and practise new skills and techniques, improve their fitness, and socialise with fellow club members. The club also organises social outings for team building and communication, as well as an annual training camp to further enhance orienteering abilities.
In addition to its training programmes, Blue Lightning is known for its popular Blue Lightning Cake Stall, which is held at local ACT events to raise funds for the club and provide subsidies for juniors selected to represent the ACT at the Australian Schools Championships. The club also coordinates the Focus on Girls (FOG) coaching group, specifically designed to boost confidence and provide a supportive environment for women and girls interested in orienteering.
If you are interested in joining Blue Lightning Junior Orienteering, you can simply email BlueLightningACT@gmail. Com or talk to any of the existing members. By joining, you will be added to the mailing list, which includes information about upcoming events, training camps, selection trials for the schools team, and more.
Blue Lightning Junior Orienteering is committed to promoting the sport of orienteering and acknowledges the custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal people, and their Elders past and present. The club recognises and respects the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the land and welcomes their descendants to participate in club events and become members.
