Yoga Yama

Yoga Yama is a yoga instructor based in Frome, New Zealand, that offers a unique and holistic approach to wellbeing. Founded by Dr Helen Nicholas, a registered practitioner psychologist, and Gordon Teasdale, a registered sports therapist and sport scientist, Yoga Yama combines evidence-based research and professional clinical experience with the practise of yoga.

Helen and Gordon are both Ashtanga and Yin yoga teachers, educators, and consultants. With almost four decades of combined clinical experience and personal yoga practise, they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their work. They believe in the power of movement-based mind and whole-body practise to enhance wellbeing.

At Yoga Yama, Helen, and Gordon incorporate their professional skills and experience into their yoga classes, events, and workshops. They focus on body movement in coordination with breath to improve mental and physical wellbeing. Their classes are designed to create a balance between strength and flexibility, mindfulness and relaxation.

Gordon is a qualified sport scientist, sports therapist, and Ashtanga and Yin yoga teacher. He specialises in injury and performance soft tissue therapy in his clinical practise and is currently completing a PhD with a focus on fascia and biotensegrity. Helen, on the other hand, is a registered psychologist, accredited EMDR therapist, and Ashtanga and Yin Yoga teacher. She combines her background in mental health and psychology with the benefits of movement and breath, such as yoga, in her private therapy practise.

Another important member of the Yoga Yama team is Kajika, a 16-and-a-half-year-old Bengal fur baby. Kajika loves being on the yoga mat and is especially fond of the savasana pose. He adds a touch of warmth and joy to the Yoga Yama experience.
