VWA New Westminster – Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial arts school located in New Westminster, British Columbia. Specializing in the art of Aikido, the school aims to promote personal development and harmony through the practice of this ancient martial art. Aikido, often referred to as the Art of Peace, focuses on using universal energy (KI) to neutralize an attacker's force, rather than relying on physical strength.
The dojo regularly hosts seminars and events, with upcoming highlights including a spring seminar with Ishiyama Shihan & Guest Instructors in March 2024. This event will provide students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Aikido and learn from experienced instructors. Additionally, VWA New Westminster – Aikido offers an introductory six-session course for those interested in exploring what Aikido has to offer.
For those looking to join the school, no prior martial arts experience is necessary. Prospective students are encouraged to book their first class by emailing the dojo and to familiarize themselves with the dojo's Code of Conduct. Classes are held at various locations, including St. Philips Gym and St.
Mary's Kerrisdale Gym, with a schedule available for reference.
VWA New Westminster – Aikido is dedicated to spreading the teachings of Aikido and fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for individuals of all fitness levels. Whether you are a seasoned martial artist or a complete novice, the school welcomes you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth through the study of Aikido.
