Ventnor Bowling Club is the oldest bowling club on the Isle of Wight, located just above the town of Ventnor. Situated approximately 330 feet above sea level and half a mile from the sea front, the club has been at its present location since 1927.
Despite its long-established history, Ventnor Bowling Club is always seeking to expand its family and welcome new members to the friendly club and the sport of bowls. The club boasts a beautiful setting, a traditional pavilion clubhouse, and one of the finest greens on the Isle of Wight. In fact, it is the only club on the island with its own full-length indoor rink.
Members of Ventnor Bowling Club come from all walks of life and span across all age groups, reflecting the fact that bowls truly is a sport for everyone. The club is open from April to September for outdoor bowling, and during the winter months, members can continue playing on the full-length indoor rink, all included in one membership.
For those interested in joining, Ventnor Bowling Club offers a session every Wednesday morning in the summer and Monday night in the winter. However, if these times don't suit, the club is more than willing to try to arrange a more convenient time for individuals to try out the sport.
In terms of club news, members and their families are wished a Happy New Year and reminded of the cosy indoor rink available for playing during the winter months to keep fit and maintain their bowling skills. The club encourages members to head over to their Facebook page for a selection of pictures from their presentation night.
Ventnor Bowling Club is fortunate enough to have the support of local sponsors, including Liddelow Independent Financial Services, Geoff Leather Independent Funeral Services, Bonchurch Garage, Ventnor Mobility Centre, and the Wellington Hotel in Ventnor.
The club also takes pride in its rich history, dating back to 1886 when it was first formed. Initially located at Highport Cliff, the club had to find a new home during World War I, ultimately settling just above Ventnor seafront at “La Falaise” where it remained until 1927.
Overall, Ventnor Bowling Club invites individuals of all ages and backgrounds to experience the joys of lawn bowling in a picturesque setting with a strong sense of community.
