The Tin Can Bay Fishing Club, also known as TCBFC, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1998. What started with just eight members has now transformed into a thriving community of 135 active members. The club boasts a diverse membership base, comprising individuals from various age groups, ranging from children to retirees.

As a not-for-profit organisation, the Tin Can Bay Fishing Club centres around the shared love of fishing, fostering friendships, and having fun. The club is dedicated to promoting the pleasures and benefits of recreational fishing to people of all ages and abilities.

One of the club's primary objectives is to ensure the sustainability and management of fish stocks. They actively engage in measures to protect and improve the marine environment while supporting local businesses that share the same commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the club encourages a responsible approach to fishing, emphasising the practise of keeping only enough fish for a feed. Sustainability is at the forefront of the club's competitions, with a strong focus on catch and release policies.

Throughout the year, the Tin Can Bay Fishing Club organises workshops and training days for its members. Guest speakers provide valuable information and updates regarding green and restricted zones, helping members stay informed about best fishing practises.

The club holds fishing outings both on land and in the bay, as well as in several freshwater dams within the local area. Points are awarded for fish caught and measured during these events, contributing to the club's monthly fishing competitions. The culmination of these competitions is an annual awards presentation held in October each year.

In addition to catering to its members, the Tin Can Bay Fishing Club also extends its support to the wider community. The club actively participates in and shares its assets with other nonprofit groups, including Coastguard Tin Can Bay, Sailability, the Tin Can Bay Camera Club, and the annual Tin Can Bay Dragon Boat Carnival.

The club has also made significant strides in improving its physical infrastructure over the years. In 2014, the Gympie Regional Council provided the club with a lease on a 1730 square metre block of land at 33 Dolphin Avenue. Subsequently, the club built a 10m × 7m Colourbond Building, which serves as its clubhouse. An amenities block was constructed and commissioned in 2016, followed by the completion of a Colourbond Storage Shed in 2018 to secure various equipment.

Extensive landscaping was carried out, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding area. Grant funding in 2019 helped upgrade the club grounds and facilities, showcasing the dedication of the hard-working members. The club continued its progress with grant funding in 2020, focusing on enhancing security, the club grounds, and the clubhouse.

2021 brought further improvements, with the installation of a kitchen in the main building. The clubhouse now boasts both electricity and solar panels, emphasising sustainability. Additionally, the club successfully completed the construction of an outdoor meeting and BBQ area, providing a social and training hub for various events.
