The North West Face Climbing Centre in Warrington is a well-established rock climbing gym and sports club. Since opening in February 1996, it has grown to provide a comprehensive climbing experience for enthusiasts at all levels.
With 54 climbing lines, the centre offers a variety of options including top ropes, lead climbing, and 6 auto belays. There’s also a bouldering area covering about 100 square metres. Whether you're new to climbing or have years of experience, The North West Face has something for you.
Conveniently located on the A49 Winwick Rd next to Warrington Wolves Rugby Stadium, the gym occupies a distinctive Victorian church, making it easy to find. There's ample parking for over 35 cars. Just use the Sat Nav code WA2 7NE to get there.
Safety is a priority, so all climbers must register their competence before climbing unsupervised. This ensures everyone has the necessary skills and knowledge to climb safely.
The centre also boasts a well-stocked climbing gear shop. You can find climbing shoes from top brands like Five Ten, Boreal, La Sportiva, and Scarpa. They also sell harnesses from Black Diamond, Petzl, Mammut, and Arc'teryx, plus ropes from Beal, Mammut, and Edelrid. Special offers are available for members.
For young climbers aged 6 and above, there are under 18 climbing clubs that run for 2 hours. These clubs welcome both first-timers and those looking to improve regularly. Safety is always emphasised, and climbers can track their progress through the NICAS scheme. All under 18 climbers need to complete a waiver before climbing.
During school holidays, daytime clubs run for 90 minutes and cost £14 per child. The 2-hour clubs are £16 per child. Advance booking is required, and you need to give 48-hour notice for a refund or transfer.
Parents can also attend a 2-hour training course for £100 to learn how to supervise their children during climbing sessions. This course covers all essential skills and is a valuable investment for climbing families.
Adults interested in learning to climb can enrol in an introductory course. This consists of 2x2 hour sessions for £90 per person. You’ll learn about harness use, tying in, belaying in a top rope scenario, using auto belays, and understanding the bouldering grading system. By the end of the course, participants should be ready to climb without instructor supervision. All equipment is provided, and a minimum of 2 participants is required.
The North West Face Climbing Centre aims to provide a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment for climbers of all ages and abilities. With a wide range of climbing options, quality gear, and expert instruction, it’s the ideal place to explore the exciting world of rock climbing.
