Tania Alexander Yoga is a well-respected yoga instructor in Oakleigh East, known for her inclusive and student-focused approach. With a commitment to providing classes that are safe and easy to follow, Tania prioritises the well-being and agency of her students.
In her yoga classes, Tania makes it a point to not include certain elements that may not be comfortable for everyone. There is no touching or manual adjustments unless specifically requested by the student. Chanting is also not incorporated in the classes, as Tania understands that many people may not be familiar or comfortable with this practise. Additionally, headstands are not emphasised, as Tania believes in deepening the practise without risking injury and encourages students to focus on building a strong foundation.
Tania currently offers a range of classes at her studio in Oakleigh East. The gentle/novice class focuses on breathwork, physical alignment, and balance, while also teaching mindfulness techniques to be used both on and off the mat. The slow flow class starts with Pranayama (breath control) to ground the students and then guides them through a graceful sequence of asanas to build intensity, warmth, strength, and stamina. The class ends with healing and rest in final Savasana.
The yin and meditation class is designed to provide a calming experience, with long holds in each pose targeting deep connective tissue. Guided meditation or Yoga Nidra is incorporated to deepen the practise.
For those looking to transition from the work week to the weekend, Tania recently introduced the Friday evening Mindful Movement class. This weekly class helps participants shift their focus from work to relaxation, incorporating breath awareness, yoga asanas, and stress-busting meditation techniques. All abilities, including beginners, are welcome in this safe and inclusive environment.
Tania ensures intimate class sizes, with a maximum of 12 students per session. This allows for personalised attention and ample space for movement. To cater to individual needs, a variety of props are available for use during classes. The language and cues used by Tania are always relevant to the participants, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
In addition to studio classes, Tania offers private one-on-one sessions and group/corporate sessions by appointment. This allows individuals or organisations to tailor their yoga experience according to their specific goals and requirements. Tania also maintains a consistent schedule of weekday classes, with the added benefit of sessions during school holidays to support students in maintaining their practise.
Tania's students have expressed their appreciation for her teaching style and the positive impact her classes have had on their well-being. Many have noted her ability to guide and support students of all levels, making them feel comfortable and confident. The small class sizes and varied class structures ensure that each class is unique, enjoyable, and beneficial.
