Professional dancer and dance teacher, Linda Chamberlain is the Principal of Sylvia Bird School of Dance. She holds a Master's degree and is DBS and First Aid certified. Linda is passionate about providing a safe and nurturing environment for students to learn and grow in their dance journey.

Joy Thomas Assistant Principal B. A. Hons Joy Thomas is Assistant Principal at Sylvia Bird School of Dance. With a Bachelor's degree in dance and years of experience in the industry, Joy brings her expertise and creativity to the dance studio.

She is dedicated to helping students discover their potential and achieve their goals.

Our team of qualified and experienced dance teachers are committed to providing quality dance education to students of all ages and abilities. They create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where students feel encouraged and supported to explore their passion for dance.

We offer a wide range of dance classes for students at Sylvia Bird School of Dance. Our weekly lessons include Ballet, Tap, Modern, Acro, and Lyrical. We also offer additional classes in National, Character, Song and Dance, Pointe Ballet, and Contemporary by invitation. Whether students are interested in examinations, dance shows, or performances, we have classes tailored to their goals.

We believe in the importance of progress and development in dance. Our school holds a minimum of three examination sessions throughout the year, giving students the opportunity to showcase their skills and receive recognition for their hard work.

One of the highlights of our year is the Dancing Delight show held in July. While participation in the show is not compulsory, it is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain stage experience and share their love for dance with their friends and family.

In addition to our own shows, our students are invited to perform in various local charity events, fetes, and galas. Many of our students have successfully auditioned and performed in pantomimes and musicals at local theatres, showcasing their talent and dedication.

The Sylvia Bird School of Dance has a rich history dating back over 65 years. Founded by the late Miss Sylvia Bird, the school has trained thousands of children, many of whom have gone on to become professional dancers, singers, or actors. The school's building on Brays Lane holds cherished memories for Coventry children who have danced at Sylvia's.

After Miss Sylvia Bird's passing in 2009, her dedicated assistants Linda Chamberlain and Joy Thomas worked tirelessly to keep the school open and preserve her legacy. They continue to uphold the values and standards Miss Sylvia Bird held dear, ensuring that the show goes on.

Located at the original premises on Brays Lane, our purpose-built dance studio provides a safe and inspiring space for students to learn and create. With changing facilities, a dance shop, and two well-equipped studios, our school is designed to meet the needs of our students and provide a conducive environment for their dance education.
