Sifu Dave George continues his training in various martial arts styles including Karate, Judo, and Boxing.
In 1982, Sifu Dave discovered the art of Tai Chi and immediately connected with its gentle and flowing movements. Committed to mastering this ancient martial art, he began training under the guidance of Sifu Derek Frearson, a student of the renowned Master Ou.
Over the years, Sifu Dave honed his Tai Chi skills and eventually became a certified instructor. In 1990, he founded the South Leicester Tai Chi Club to promote Tai Chi’s practice and benefits to the local community.
The South Leicester Tai Chi Club welcomes individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, there's a place for you. The club offers a relaxed, supportive environment where members can learn and grow at their own pace.
At the club, emphasis is placed on Yang Style Tai Chi. The comprehensive syllabus includes the 21 Movement and 41 Movement sets, as well as Broadsword, Fan, Straight Sword, and Spear sets. Students can learn and progress through different forms without feeling pressured to complete them.
The health benefits of practising Tai Chi are well known, and the club recognises their importance. Tai Chi improves balance, flexibility, and physical strength. It also promotes good breathing and posture, positively affecting overall well-being.
Classes are held on Friday evenings from 7pm to 8pm. Students are advised to wear loose clothing and flat-type shoes for comfort. Free Tai Chi classes are offered on Town Hall Square during the summer months, and from November, they will be hosted at the Leicester Progressive Spiritualist Church.
