Known as Rugby & District Athletic Club and competed in local and regional competitions. Similarly, Northampton Phoenix Athletic Club was established in the early 20th century and had a strong presence in the Northampton area.
In 2018, the two clubs decided to merge, forming Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club. This decision was made to strengthen the clubs' resources, enhance the training facilities, and create a more cohesive and united athletic community in the Midlands region.
Rugby & Northampton AC is now one of the most successful athletic clubs in the Midlands. With a membership of over 1000 athletes, ranging in age from 8 to over 80 years old, the club welcomes athletes of all abilities. Whether you are a seasoned athlete aiming for regional or national competitions, or someone who is just starting their fitness journey, Rugby & Northampton AC has training groups and experienced coaches to help you reach your goals.
The club boasts a vibrant and supportive community. From current European and world record holders to beginners who are just getting started, members of Rugby & Northampton AC come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of athletic abilities. Some athletes represent England in competitions, while others enjoy the camaraderie and fitness benefits of training with like-minded individuals.
Rugby & Northampton AC utilises two main training venues. The athletic track at Moulton College in Northampton and the athletic track adjacent to the Queens Diamond Jubilee Sports Centre in Rugby. Athletes have the opportunity to use both centres for training sessions and competitions.
The club is proud to have over 50 coaches and 30 officials who provide valuable support to the athletes, helping them achieve their personal goals. The coaches and officials are dedicated to creating a positive and encouraging training environment.
Rugby & Northampton AC competes in various athletic disciplines, including Track & Field, Cross Country, and Road Running, at a local, regional, and national level. The club prides itself on its achievements and success in these competitions.
