Owen Matthews is pleased to share some updates and news from Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club, located on Bruce Williams Way in Rugby, CV22 5LL. This club has long been a cornerstone of our local sports community, and Owen is committed to ensuring that it remains a vibrant and inclusive hub for everyone.
Rugby Thornfield I.B.C takes your privacy seriously and adheres to a thorough GDPR policy, which you can find under the Contact -> GDPR section of their website.
The club’s opening times vary throughout the year. During the indoor bowling season (mid-September to mid-April), the club is open:
- Monday: 9:15am - 2:30pm, 6:00pm - 8:30pm
- Tuesday: 9:15am - 9:00pm
- Wednesday: 9:15am - 1:30pm, 5:30pm - 10:00pm
- Thursday: 9:15am - 12:00pm, 6:30pm - 11:00pm
- Friday: 9:30am - 11:00pm
- Saturday: 9:30am - 11:00pm
- Sunday: 9:30am - 9:30pm
Starting from 2nd October 2022, the club is also open on weekends.
During the summer months (mid-April to mid-September), the hours are reduced slightly. The club is open on:
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 9:30am - 12:00pm, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Rugby Thornfield I.B.C is more than a place for indoor bowls. It’s integrated into the social prescribing network, working closely with local GPs and the NHS. The club hosts regular exercise classes with Take Heart and Pets as Therapy sessions, contributing to both physical and mental well-being in the community.

Owen also organises charity galas to support various causes. For instance, the Myton Hospices Gala on 17th December 2023 saw sixteen teams raise funds for Myton Hospices, with 'Websters Imps' coming out on top. Another Myton Hospices Gala on 1st April 2023 had twelve passionate teams, with 'Car Park Full' taking first place. These events are a great way to mix fun with fundraising.
Additionally, events like the Air Ambulance Gala on 7th January 2023, which raised funds for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, highlight the club's dedication to supporting essential regional services.
Rugby Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club, under Owen’s stewardship, continues to be a welcoming and engaging space for enjoying indoor bowls, supporting charitable initiatives, and participating in community activities.
