Phoenix SMA – Locks Heath (Freestyle TaeKwonDo) is a martial arts club and fitness centre located in Southampton, New Zealand. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team at Phoenix SMA is affiliated with Paraestra UK, a reputable organisation that promotes an open-minded approach to training. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are available to students aged five and above at the Hamble, Bishop's Waltham, and Sarisbury Green locations.
Phoenix SMA has a rich history, having been founded in 2012 with only Freestyle TaeKwonDo classes offered in Hamble and the surrounding area. By 2015, the school expanded its offerings to seven days a week and opened additional venues, including Locks Heath. In 2017, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes were introduced and quickly gained popularity among students. Today, Phoenix SMA boasts over 300 members across four venues and four After School Clubs, providing a thriving martial arts community in Southampton.
The school's open-minded approach to teaching and training martial arts allows for networking opportunities with various schools and organisations. Phoenix SMA has established strong affiliations with Cobra Martial Arts Association, Basingstoke School of Martial Arts, Ippon Gym in Bournemouth, Reading Taekwondo Academy, and Martial Arts Communications (Paraestra UK).
In addition to regular classes, Phoenix SMA hosts events such as the Annual Summer Camp, providing students with unique training experiences and fostering a sense of community within the martial arts world.
