PEGS Swim Academy is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. Their learn-to-swim programme is suitable for children and adults of all ages and abilities. With small class sizes and a team of knowledgeable and passionate teachers, PEGS Swim Academy aims to develop aquatic skills and confidence in their students.
The squad programme at PEGS Swim Academy offers a range of squad levels to cater to different commitment levels and abilities. In partnership with Propulsion Swim Academy and Melbourne University Sport, PEGS Swim Academy provides a comprehensive swim, dryland, and gym programme for swimmers in Transition and Recreational Squads up to National Performance Squads.
Conveniently located at the Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, Junior Boys Campus on Raleigh Street, Essendon, PEGS Swim Academy also offers lessons and squads at Melbourne University Sport's Beaurepaire Centre on Tin Alley, Parkville.
Their infant and pre-school programme encourages swimmers of all ages to develop aquatic awareness and skills. The programme focuses on water safety and introduces the fundamental elements of sound stroke mechanics. Class sizes are kept small to ensure personalised attention from instructors.
For school-aged children, PEGS Swim Academy offers a learn-to-swim and water safety programme that incorporates drills and equipment typically used at squad level. The programme aims to develop sound stroke mechanics early on, ensuring swimmers are not only “water safe” but also prepared to excel in a squad environment. It is recommended that students attend at least two lessons per week to further develop stroke technique and endurance.
PEGS Swim Academy also provides additional opportunities for their school-age learn-to-swim swimmers, such as participating in swim carnivals and swim skills workshops.
The squad programme at PEGS Swim Academy follows a four-tiered system. The Transition Squad requires a minimum commitment of one session per week, while the Junior Squad recommends a minimum of two sessions per week. The State Development Squad requires a minimum commitment of four sessions per week, along with two gym sessions. The National and State Performance Squad has a minimum swimming commitment of six sessions per week and a minimum gym commitment of two sessions per week.
