Berard Judo Academy

Berard Judo Academy is a family-friendly sports club located in Avondale Heights, Victoria. The club is owned and operated by Nicolas Berard, a highly experienced and accomplished Judo coach. Berard Judo Academy offers classes for both kids and adults of all ages and fitness levels.

The kids programme at Berard Judo Academy focuses on teaching children to be focused, respectful, and confident. Through Judo, children develop strength, coordination, and awareness of Judo techniques. The classes are suitable for boys and girls aged 5 to 12 years old, and provide encouragement to keep trying and to dream big.

Judo is a sport that has gained popularity worldwide, with approximately 22 million people practising it. French Superstar Teddy Riner is a prime example of the success that can be achieved through Judo, having won ten World Championship gold medals and two Olympic gold medals. Judo, which originated in Japan centuries ago, has been an Olympic sport since 1964. The term “Judo” translates to “the gentle way” and focuses on using an opponent's motion and weight against them.

Berard Judo Academy operates out of the Neil Heinze Pavilion, a facility in Avondale Heights. The hall is equipped with premium quality German Tatami Judo Mats, ensuring a safe and comfortable training environment. The academy welcomes all enquiries and offers a complementary two-week trial for new students.

Nicolas Berard, the head coach and owner of Berard Judo Academy, is a highly accomplished Judo athlete himself. He holds a 2nd Dan Black Belt and has achieved multiple Australian and Oceania Championship titles. Nicolas has represented Australia in both the U100kg and O100kg Senior Men's Divisions. He began practising Judo at the young age of 5, inspired by his father who was a Judo instructor.

Nicolas has been competing for Australia for over 6 years and has been teaching Judo in Australia for over 7 years.
