The club currently boasts approximately 225 registered players, ranging from the 9 and under age group to the open division. Many of these players have also taken the opportunity to develop their skills as umpires and coaches, and the club fully supports their growth through courses and mentoring programmes.
St Johns Netball Club is an active participant in the Essendon District Netball Association (EDNA), which consists of eight clubs and 110 teams. The primary season takes place on Saturday afternoons from March to September at the Riverside, offering a competitive and exciting netball experience for players and supporters alike. Additionally, the club participates in spring competitions from October to December, providing valuable opportunities for younger teams to continue honing their skills during the “off-season” while also introducing new coaches and players to the sport.
The club also takes part in the Essendon Thunder representative teams, including age groups of 13U, 15U, 17U, and Open. This programme serves as a pathway for players to develop their netball abilities by competing against high-grade teams from across Melbourne. St Johns Netball Club takes pride in the fact that 21 of their players represented the club in this programme in 2022.
St Johns Netball Club is known for its commitment to building a sense of community and promoting the active involvement of young women in sports. The club fosters a love for netball through various roles, including player, coach, umpire, committee member, team manager, and supporter. It encourages all members to develop their netball skills, abide by the rules, and most importantly, have fun.
The club is proud to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung People of the Kulin Nation, and pays its respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders, and community members, both past and present. Located in the northwestern suburbs of Melbourne, the club draws players from various areas, including Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Travancore, Brunswick, Coburg, Royal Park, Pascoe Vale, Strathmore, Glenroy, Oak Park, Aberfeldie, and Maribyrnong. The club's training venues are situated at the Riverside Golf & Tennis Centre on Newsome Street in Ascot Vale. These venues provide excellent facilities for players to hone their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of the netball community.
