Welcome to Milton Keynes Open University KSK Aikido Club, located at St Michaels Church, O. Campus, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The club offers training sessions on Tuesdays from 17. 30 to 19.
30 and Wednesdays from 20. 00 to 22. 00.
The club is led by a team of experienced instructors, including David Walford, a 3rd Dan and Coach Level 1, Phil Purcell, a 2nd Dan and Coach Level 1, and Lillianne Novak, a 2nd Dan and Coach Level 1. They bring their expertise and passion for Aikido to guide students through their martial arts journey.
The focus of the Milton Keynes Open University KSK Aikido Club is on the practise of traditional Aikido in the manner of Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. The club recognises and embraces the diversity of Aikido expressions, as long as they align with the teachings of O-Sensei, the founder of Aikido. This approach allows students to explore and develop their own style within the framework of traditional Aikido principles.
The club's history dates back to the 1960s when it was founded as Yamarashi by Mike Smith, who earned his Nidan from Tielemans Sensei of Belgium. Affiliated with the British Aikido Association, the club worked closely with the Tomiki-Kai, eventually establishing itself as a separate school recognised by the British Aikido Board in 1994. In 2021, the club became independent from the BAB and became a founder member of the Aikido Alliance UK.
In addition to regular training sessions, the Milton Keynes Open University KSK Aikido Club participates in major courses throughout the year. These courses feature senior instructors from within Kai Shin Kai, and occasionally invite senseis from Japan, Italy, and America, providing students with a rich and diverse experience in their Aikido practise.
Whether you are a beginner looking to start your martial arts journey or an experienced practitioner seeking to further develop your skills, the Milton Keynes Open University KSK Aikido Club welcomes individuals of all levels. Join our club and become part of a supportive community that values respect, discipline, and personal growth.
