Founded in 1861 and later absorbed into the Horse Artillery element of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) in 1891, the Light Cavalry operates as a non-profit organisation offering hacks and lessons on their forward-going military parade horses.
The Light Cavalry is known for its convenient location, situated on the doorstep of Windsor Great Park. This prime location provides riders with the opportunity to enjoy stunning rides and lessons in the heart of nature. With hacks available in Windsor Great Park, riders can experience the beauty of the surroundings while riding the Light Cavalry horses.
This Equestrian Centre and Club is open to adults, affiliated schools, and clubs. Individual riders can join as Supporting Riders, granting them access to the full-sized covered arena where they can ride and improve their skills. In addition, Supporting Riders can partake in hacks in Windsor Great Park and engage in various social activities organised by the club.
It is important to note that the Light Cavalry is unable to accommodate beginners. Riders must have prior experience and be proficient in walking, trotting, and have learned to canter. They should also demonstrate balance and the ability to be in full control of their horse's direction.
At the Light Cavalry, riders of all levels are welcome to participate in lessons. Private, semi-private, and group lessons are offered in the indoor arena, all conducted by qualified instructors from the British Horse Society (BHS). Regardless of skill level, riders can receive personalised instruction to improve their equestrian abilities.
The Light Cavalry operates on specific opening hours throughout the week, providing ample opportunity for riders to schedule their visits. Staff lunch hours are observed between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm.
