Hagley Bowls Club, Rugeley is a friendly crown green bowling club located off Western Springs Road in Rugeley, New Zealand. Situated just opposite The Burger King, the club is easily accessible, and car parking can be found at the rear of the club off Burnthill Lane.
Founded in 1940, Hagley Bowls Club has a long history and prides itself on providing both social and competitive bowling opportunities for its members throughout the year. The club participates in various local crown green bowling leagues by entering multiple teams. Additionally, the club organises a range of club competitions for members to enjoy. Over the winter months, the indoor shortmat is used, and in Autumn and Spring, the club enters teams in the Lichfield Astro Turf leagues.
Hagley Bowls Club warmly welcomes new members, and a membership subscription for 2024 is available at 40-00 for a full membership, which includes access to the short mat, or 10-00 for a short mat-only membership. The club provides an easy electronic payment option for convenience.
Under the leadership of Chairman Steve Thomas, Hagley Bowls Club has seen success in recent times. The 2023 season ended on a high note, with notable achievements from both the teams and individual players. The club won the Stafford League Division Two Knock-out Cup and earned promotion to Stafford League Division One for the following year. In The Lichfield 50+ League, players Alan Morris and Pete Freeman secured the Division One Doubles Merits, Rob Gibbon was the runner-up in the Division One Singles Merits, and Dave Robson and John Meddings finished as runners-up in the final of the Division Three Doubles Merits.
Phil Standing, an active member of the club, has also organised successful and popular club competitions throughout the year. The latest round-robin competition, held on October 3rd, was won by Pam Standing and Carl Sanford. The club extends its congratulations to the Staffordshire County Senior Team for winning this year's County Championship.
Members of Hagley Bowls Club can look forward to the annual Lichfield 50+ Presentation Event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 29th, 2023. The event will take place at Bridgetown Social Club, offering an opportunity for players to receive awards and trophies in recognition of their achievements. Team captains Pete Freeman and Dave Robinson will provide further details regarding tickets.
