For all the open water certified divers and above, this activity takes approximately 7 hours and promises an unforgettable experience. The meeting point is Sunreef at The Wharf, Mooloolaba. If you need to hire gear or would like to combine this with a Nitrox (Enriched Air) Course, Sunreef Mooloolaba's booking form provides more information.
On the day of the trip, check-in starts at the designated time provided on your confirmation email or text. The Flinders Reef trip is a full-day excursion, usually starting in the morning and returning in the afternoon. Upon arrival, Sunreef Mooloolaba's friendly staff will greet you at the check-in desk to verify your diver certification card and assist with organising your gear. If you bring your own gear, our crew can help you transport it to the dock where you can set it up. For those renting gear, everything will be ready for you before check-in.
Before departure to Flinders Reef, Sunreef Mooloolaba's knowledgeable crew will provide a comprehensive briefing on the dive sites you may visit during the day and answer any questions you may have. The boat ride to the site takes approximately 45 minutes once you exit the calm waters of the Mooloolaba River system. Each dive is planned to last for either 60 minutes or until you reach 50 bar of pressure, whichever comes first. Divers will have the opportunity to complete two dives, one at each location. You can choose to buddy up with a partner or go with one of Sunreef Mooloolaba's experienced guides.
Between dives, there will be a surface interval where you will be provided with lunch and refreshments. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, you are welcome to bring your own lunch. After completing the dives, the group will return to the shop where the crew can unload the vessel and wash all your gear if desired.
Flinders Reef, named after Matthew Flinders, the explorer who led the first crew to circumnavigate Australia, is located just north of Moreton Island. This beautiful site offers consistently clean and clear water with great visibility and abundant sea life throughout the year. During the trip, the group usually visits two sites with diverse underwater landscapes, including walls, gutters, caves, and pinnacles, teeming with coral, sponge, and plant species.
Please note that the trip is subject to sea conditions and weather. Sunreef Mooloolaba closely monitors these factors, and if they are unsuitable, they will notify you in advance via email and text message. You can also call their office if you did not receive the notification. If you haven't dived in the last 2 years or are not certified, you may need to complete a Scuba Review/Refresher Course or a Reactivate Course before participating in the dives. Contact Sunreef Mooloolaba for more information.
Sunreef Mooloolaba's experienced crew will take care of you if you experience seasickness or have difficulty equalising. However, they will not issue rebookings or refunds for inability to equalise or seasickness preventing completion of the dives. To minimise the risk of seasickness, Sunreef Mooloolaba recommends taking seasickness tablets before the trip. They will do their best to assist you whenever possible.
