East Yorkshire Judo Academy was established in 2001 by esteemed judo athletes Daniel Kissenisky, Steve Shepherd, and Dave Platten. With a strong emphasis on community and success, the club has flourished into a thriving judo community that consistently develops players to national and international standards.
Catering to individuals of all ages, abilities, and levels of experience, East Yorkshire Judo Academy offers a diverse range of programmes. From teaching primary school age children fundamental skills to providing coaching for players on international performance pathways, our club aims to nurture talent at every stage of the judo journey.
As members of the British Judo Association, we adhere to the safeguarding code of practise, Safer Landings. To ensure the highest level of coaching, all of our coaches are BJA qualified and undergo DBS checks. In addition, they hold First Aid and Child Protection certificates. It is worth noting that our lead coach, Daniel Kissenisky, was a former England pathway coach and recipient of the prestigious Hull Daily Mail coach of the Year Award.
We take great pride in our coaching team, which includes performance coach Steve Shepherd. With over 45 years of experience in judo, Steve has a proven track record in facilitating competitors to achieve remarkable results at both national and international levels. We also have an esteemed group of coaches who contribute to the development and success of our members.
Visitors and new starters are always welcome at East Yorkshire Judo Academy. If you're interested in taking up the Olympic sport of judo, please visit our new starters page on our website for more information.
Our classes are conducted at various locations throughout the region, including several local primary schools and the Beverley Leisure Centre on Saturday mornings. For our more advanced students, we offer a purpose-built judo hall (Dojo) with a permanent sprung floored mat area.
In addition to our regular classes, we encourage participation in various events and competitions. The club regularly updates our website's news section to keep members informed of the latest happenings. We recently celebrated the success of our participants at the Concorde Judo Competition in Sheffield, where we had under 8s competing.
Looking ahead, we have a busy calendar of upcoming events, including gradings, coaching education opportunities, and tournaments such as the Scottish Open, Liverpool Open, and the English Open at the University of East London. Our club offers a comprehensive and diverse range of judo experiences, ensuring the continued growth and development of our members.
