Welcome to the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, a spiritual haven located in the heart of Cambridge, New Zealand. The Centre is dedicated to making Meditation and Buddhism accessible to everyone, fostering a sense of community and personal growth. With a focus on the Dana Economy, where everyone contributes what they can, the Centre provides a range of classes and activities to nourish the body, mind, and soul.
At the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, Buddhism is seen as a set of tools for making life more meaningful. Through the development of awareness and compassion, individuals can transform their perception of life and become a force for good in the world. The Centre offers regular classes and courses to delve deeper into the teachings of Buddhism and explore different aspects of the practise.
Meditation plays a central role in the Centre's offerings. Two main meditation practises are taught: the Mindfulness of Breathing and the 'Metta Bhavana', which focuses on cultivating kindness and compassion. Classes and courses are held on Monday and Thursday evenings, as well as some lunchtimes, providing ample opportunities for individuals to experience the value of meditation for themselves.
Mindfulness, another key practise at the Centre, is a way of paying attention to our experiences that helps free us from reactive patterns. By cultivating mindfulness, individuals can lead more pleasant and meaningful lives. Through various mindfulness activities and courses, the Centre aims to guide practitioners in developing this invaluable skill.
The Cambridge Buddhist Centre is also part of a local community of practising Buddhists, connected to the international Triratna Buddhist Community. This affiliation provides members with a supportive network, enriching their spiritual journey through shared experiences and resources.
In addition to meditation and Buddhism, the Centre offers a variety of bodywork classes such as Tai Chi and Yoga. Tai Chi, an ancient art of health-giving exercises and flowing movements, promotes relaxation, grounding, and increased energy levels. Yoga, a discipline that encompasses both body and mind, aims to relax and energise practitioners, promoting holistic well-being.
The Centre regularly shares news and updates about upcoming events, developments, and achievements within the community. From ordination news to Ashtanga yoga practise groups, there is always something exciting happening. Members can stay connected with the Centre by signing up for their newsletter or visiting their website.
