Broughty Bowling Club

Bill Sharp hopes everyone will join Broughty Bowling Club. Instead of only a venue to play lawn bowls, Bill believes it's where individuals come together to enjoy the sport and build lasting friendships.

Established in 1875, Broughty Bowling Club has a storied history. Over the years, it has fostered a spirit of fellowship and camaraderie. Bill recalls the formation of the Ladies Section in 1924, a key step in creating a united and inclusive club. Today, the club maintains a welcoming environment.

Members and visitors alike enjoy the beautiful green at the club. The fine setting, coupled with a well-appointed clubhouse, offers an ideal backdrop for friendly competition. Picture a sunny summer afternoon with eight rinks in play—it's a scene that captures the essence of the club.

Broughty Bowling Club has made significant contributions to the history of lawn bowling in Scotland. Bill takes pride in the club being a founding member of the Scottish Bowling Association in 1892 and joining the City of Dundee Bowling Association in 1927. The tradition of friendly matches with local clubs has forged lasting friendships across Dundee, Perth, Forfar, Arbroath, and beyond.

The club has a history of hosting prestigious events. In 1953, Broughty Bowling Club hosted the International Trial Match for the Scottish Bowling Association. The Commonwealth Games Elimination Tournament came to the club in 1956. The Barclay Cup Competition is another highlight, with the most recent victory in 2016.

Beyond lawn bowls, Broughty Bowling Club offers a range of social activities. There are opportunities for everyone, whether through the juniors' programme, sponsor events, or exploring the club's gallery.

The club is led by dedicated individuals committed to its success. Serving as Club President for 2023, Bill Sharp works alongside champions like Simon Rattray and Rachel Pirie. Honorary office bearers include Elsie Dorricott as Honorary President and Mark Watson as Honorary Vice President.
