Ballet Academy Scotland

Ballet Academy Scotland, formerly known as Ferry Dance School, is a dance school located in the picturesque town of Broughty Ferry on the outskirts of Dundee in Scotland. Established in 2011, the academy offers a range of classes for students aged 3 years and above, catering to both beginners and those aspiring to become professional dancers.

The primary focus of Ballet Academy Scotland is Classical Ballet, with additional training in contemporary dance, acrodance, and body conditioning. The academy has a track record of success in preparing students for Associate programmes with renowned institutions such as the Royal Ballet School, Scottish Ballet, and Scottish Youth Ballet. Many of the students have also achieved finalist positions in prestigious competitions, including the Scottish Youth Ballet Grand Prix.

The academy boasts a highly experienced faculty, led by Laura Mumby, the Academy Principal. Laura is a certified AIDTA ballet instructor and a Progressing Ballet Technique instructor. She began her dance training at the young age of 3 and continued until 18 at the Wendy Foster School of Dance. Laura has been involved in professional pantomimes, competed in dance festivals across the country, and represented her region in the All England Finals.

She holds qualifications in RAD Advanced 1 Ballet, Advanced 1 Modern, and Grade 5 Tap. Laura has also pursued her passion for photography and has had the opportunity to work with prestigious dance companies such as the Royal Ballet and the St. Petersburg Ballet. In addition to her teaching role, Laura continues to work as a freelance dance photographer.

Sindy Monson, the founder and Emeritus Professor of Ballet Academy Scotland, is a highly accomplished dancer herself. She started her dance training at the age of 11 and went on to train at the renowned Tring Park School. Sindy has performed with various professional dance companies and has made a name for herself as a choreographer as well. Her expertise and experience add immense value to the academy.
