Class Information At Mortdale Physie, classes are offered for a range of ages and abilities. From pre-schoolers to ladies of all ages, everyone is welcome to join and experience the joy of physie. Whether you are a beginner or have previous experience in dance or physie, there is a place for you at Mortdale Physie. The club prides itself on providing a family-friendly atmosphere that promotes inclusivity and encourages personal growth.

In 2023, Mortdale Physie is proud to celebrate Aunty Nola's 60th year of teaching. Aunty Nola has over six decades of teaching experience and is committed to providing expert guidance to all of her students. She teaches all the classes from Tinies through to 12-year-olds and also leads the Ladies classes. Aunty Nola's dedication and expertise form the backbone of Mortdale Physie.

Elisse Hellyer is another highly valued teacher at Mortdale Physie. She teaches the 13-year-old to Senior classes and is passionate about helping members reach their full potential. Both Aunty Nola and Elisse are supported by a team of hardworking support teachers and a caring committee. Together, they create an environment where members can thrive and excel in their physie journey.

This affiliation ensures that the club aligns with the highest standards and benefits from the extensive resources and support provided by the organisation. What is Physie? Physie, short for Physical Culture, is a unique sport exclusively for girls and ladies aged 2 years and up. It combines elements of ballet, jazz, contemporary, pilates, and hip hop to create a dynamic and age-appropriate syllabus. This syllabus, which is updated annually, focuses on developing strength, grace, coordination, and flexibility.

All routines are designed by experienced choreographers and set to contemporary music that is suitable for each age group.

Physie at Mortdale Physical Culture Club promotes self-confidence and self-esteem among its members. The club's motto, “Empowering girls for life,” reflects its commitment to nurturing personal growth and empowering girls and ladies to be their best selves.

Our Proud History Mortdale Physical Culture Club has a rich and proud history within both the Mortdale and Oatley communities, as well as the larger Bjelke-Petersen School of Physical Culture community. It is one of the oldest clubs in the St George area, with a legacy spanning several decades.

The club was originally established in 1945 with Mrs. Sylvia Leach as the teacher, and classes were held in St. Peter's Church Hall. Over the years, the club evolved and flourished under the leadership of dedicated teachers such as Mrs.

Hazel Lane and Mrs. Phyllis Bevan. Notable milestones include the introduction of the “Most Improved” perpetual trophy, the transition from tunics to leotards, and various venue changes to accommodate the growing membership.

In 1960, Mortdale Physie welcomed Nola Hellyer as a teacher, marking the beginning of a new era for the club. In recent years, the club has achieved numerous successes, including winning first place overall in Championship Grade and celebrating Aunty Nola's 50th and 60th years of teaching.

One of the club's proudest moments is when former members return and become teachers themselves. This speaks to the lasting impact and sense of belonging that Mortdale Physie instils in its members.
