Genius Wellbeing is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia that specialises in yoga and pilates. Whether you are new to these practises or have experience, Genius Wellbeing offers sessions catered to your needs.
The club is based at St Margaret's Hall in Eltham, a stunning mudbrick building designed by Robert Marshall. The hall has been renovated to create an exceptional and uplifting environment for yoga and pilates. With plenty of space to spread out and relax, the hall can accommodate up to 18 people, although classes typically have 8 to 15 participants. It boasts an abundance of natural light and air, a courtyard garden outlook, and a peaceful atmosphere.
Modern bathrooms ensure comfort, and the hall is warm in winter and cool in summer. Plentiful easy car parking is available out the front, as well as across the road at Eltham Hotel.
Genius Wellbeing's yoga classes offer a step-by-step introduction to foundation postures. The sessions aim to bring wellbeing, strength, and flexibility into your daily life. Each class includes easing shoulders, loosening hips, sun salutations, and foundation standing poses. Optional introduction to inverted poses is provided, followed by twists, forward bends, and deep relaxation.
Some benefits of practising yoga at Genius Wellbeing include increased energy, enhanced flexibility and strength, improved muscle tone, and improved sleep quality.
The club's pilates classes focus on core strength, lengthening the spine, and loosening stiff joints. Each exercise is explained, and variations are given to progressively challenge or ease the load. Resting positions are provided in between exercises to ensure proper recuperation. Beginners are welcome at all pilates classes.
Pilates can offer benefits such as a strong core, a healthy spine, long lean muscles, and improved posture.
Genius Wellbeing encourages individuals to come along to their classes without the need for bookings. Participants are asked to bring their own mats and, if available, blocks, belts, and blankets for added comfort. The club also provides resistance bands, yoga belts, 1 kg dumbbells, and squishy balls. Spare blocks and mats are available for those who require them.
Payments can be made at the venue, either in cash or card, or through their online store.
In addition to in-person classes, Genius Wellbeing also offers Zoom Yogalates sessions for those who prefer to practise from the comfort of their own homes.
The club's general advice includes wearing unrestricted clothing that allows freedom of movement, bringing an extra warm layer for final relaxation, and allowing a couple of hours after a meal before attending a class. All ages and abilities are welcome, and even high school students are encouraged to join. Children over 10 years old are also welcome as long as they follow the class guidelines.
At Genius Wellbeing, their aim is to help you feel strong, supple, and grounded through the practise of yoga and pilates.
