Carol Grayson would like to share some news about York Croquet Club with the sports community. Situated close to York's city walls, this small and friendly club, established back in 1988, holds its gatherings on the lush croquet lawns at Scarcroft Green, Scarcroft Road, York. The club, known for its warm welcome and qualified coaches, is always open to new members.
York Croquet Club focuses on Association Croquet, often called the Queen of Games. They offer taster sessions and introductory courses for anyone curious about this engaging sport. One notable aspect of croquet is its inclusivity; it’s a game of strategy rather than strength, making it accessible to all ages and genders. The only requirement is flat-soled footwear, as the club provides all the necessary gear.
The main season kicks off in April and wraps up in early October. Over the winter, members stay connected with a social programme, and lately, the club has even experimented with winter play. Boasting three of the best croquet lawns in Yorkshire and two small practice lawns, the club is well-equipped for both old and new members.
Beyond its own members, York Croquet Club extends its hand to community groups and corporate team-building events. They also offer modern and vintage croquet equipment for hire at reasonable rates, ensuring a fun and inclusive atmosphere for all.
If you're keen to know more about croquet or interested in joining the club, Carol encourages you to reach out to the Club Secretary, Christine Morris, at 07981 049174 or via email at [email protected].
The club's primary season ranges from late March to mid-October. To kickstart interest in the game, they run introductory courses early in the season and offer two one-day croquet experiences later on. More information can be found on the club's website under the 'Try the Game' section.
York Croquet Club awaits your queries and looks forward to welcoming you. Contact them at 07981 049174 or [email protected], and they’ll be more than happy to assist.
