Steve Jones would like to welcome everyone to Worthing Fencing Club! Steve's club caters to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced fencers. Specialising in épée, one of the three modern fencing weapons, the club is perfect for those looking to try a new sport, improve their skills, or seek challenging opponents.
Members have access to equipment and lessons, with electronic pistes available for the more experienced fencers. The goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy the sport.
The term dates for 2024 have been set, starting on 5th January and running until 23rd February. Sessions happen in the Main Assembly Hall, with any changes updated on social media or club directories.
Beginners can enrol in courses starting on 19th April 2024. Details and sign-up forms are available on the website and social media. These courses are ideal for newcomers to learn the basics and receive proper instruction before joining larger groups.
Worthing Fencing Club holds sessions on Friday evenings at Durrington High School from 7pm to 8:30pm. Most sessions are in the Assembly Hall, but if occupied, they may move to the Gymnasium. There is a large car park at the front of the school for convenience.
Sessions start with a warm-up of games and exercises, followed by splitting into classes for young or beginner fencers and intermediates. Experienced fencers can use the electric boxes or join the senior class. Equipment is provided; just wear comfortable sports clothing, trainer or court shoes.
Membership fees are £10 for adults (£8 for juniors) per session, or a ten-week block for £80 for adults (£60 for juniors). Curious visitors are welcome to observe a session for free, and the first session is also free for those starting a beginner course.
There are no current COVID-19 restrictions from the school or the British Fencing Association, but the situation is monitored closely. Parents and carers are asked to wear masks or practise social distancing if they watch the sessions. Please bring your own drinks, as water cannot be provided.
If you've been in contact with a positive COVID-19 case or feel unwell, please refrain from attending.
For any further questions, reach out via the Facebook Group or email Steve. The website is being updated, so social media is the best source of information for now.
There is also an upcoming events page for those keen to test their skills at local competitions.
If you're ready to start your fencing journey, join a beginner’s course and complete the 7-week sessions to earn a certificate. Then, move on to the larger junior or senior groups.
Steve and the team are excited to welcome you to Worthing Fencing Club and look forward to seeing you on the piste!
