About
Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club has been a cornerstone of the Ohope Beach community in the Bay of Plenty for 75 years. Led by Hemi, the club ensures beachgoers enjoy a safe and fun experience.
The club offers lifeguard patrols and a junior surf programme. Lifeguard training happens annually before the new season starts, covering first aid, tube rescues, and water handling. It’s a mix of hands-on and theory work.
For kids aged 5 to 14, Junior Surf offers skill-building and sports activities at their own pace, always with safety in mind. Important rules like staying between the flags and never swimming alone are stressed.
Membership is open to all, with various options from lifeguard patrolling to family packs. Special memberships are available for kids in the Sunday Surf programme, and a gear levy applies to those in midweek training. Returning members can easily reactivate their status by contacting the club.
For more details, reach out via email or phone, or check out their website and social media. Hemi and the team are all about community, fun, and keeping everyone safe in the water.
