The skills I learned as a lifeguard, I became a qualified surf instructor and joined the Salt Spray Surf School team. I love being able to share my passion for the ocean and surfing with others, and seeing the joy on their faces when they catch their first wave. It's a truly rewarding experience.

Bevan (Beaver) Porter Bevan is a local surf legend and the co-founder of Salt Spray Surf School. With years of experience riding the waves of Ohope Beach, Bevan has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in surfing. He is passionate about teaching others how to surf and sharing his love for the sport. Bevan's laid-back and friendly approach makes him a favourite among students, and his dedication to safety ensures a fun and secure learning environment.

Yvonne Yvonne is the other half of the dynamic duo behind Salt Spray Surf School. As a co-founder and instructor, Yvonne brings her own unique style and energy to the school. With a background in education, Yvonne has a knack for breaking down complex movements and techniques into simple steps that are easy to understand and follow. She takes pride in helping students build confidence in the water and achieve their surfing goals.

Our beginners' lessons are designed to provide you with a solid foundation in surfing. In a single lesson, we cover all the basics, from paddling and popping up to riding your first wave. For those looking for a more immersive experience, our 7-week progressive programme is the perfect option. With one hour of lessons per week, you'll have the opportunity to build on your skills and develop a deeper understanding of the ocean. Our instructors will work closely with you to set goals and track your progress throughout the course.

In addition to our regular lessons, we also offer school holiday programmes and after-school programmes for kids. These programmes provide a fun and educational experience for children, allowing them to learn to surf in a safe and supportive environment.

All of our instructors are experienced surfers and qualified lifeguards, and we adhere to strict safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of our students. We provide all necessary equipment, including soft top surfboards, wetsuits, rash vests, and sunscreen, so you can focus on enjoying your time in the water.
