West Midlands Golf League, founded in 1967, is a non-profit golf club located in Wolverhampton, New Zealand. The league comprises 36 clubs, with the original 24 clubs still remaining as members today. The primary objective of the league is to promote golf and foster friendship among members of golf clubs in the West Midlands and surrounding areas through competitive handicap golf.
The league operates on a fully electronic system, utilising email, an online banking system, and a dedicated website for administration purposes. Each zone within the league is overseen by a Zone Secretary, elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. The Zone Secretary is responsible for managing the respective zone and updating the website with fixtures and results. The league committee includes a Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary in addition to the Zone Secretary.
West Midlands Golf League organises two prestigious tournaments – The Roberts-Levine Trophy and The Lewis Trophy. The Roberts-Levine Trophy is contested by the top two clubs from each zone, along with the four best third-placed clubs. The competition progresses through knockout stages, with matches played both at home and away venues. The final of this highly sought-after trophy is held at a neutral venue, where the winning club is crowned as the West Midlands League Champions for that particular year.
Winners of this tournament are presented with the renowned Roberts Levine Trophy.
In addition, the league introduced The Lewis Trophy as a further knockout competition. This tournament involves the two clubs finishing third in each zone, along with the clubs finishing fourth in each zone. Similar to The Roberts-Levine Trophy, knockout matches for The Lewis Trophy are played on a home and away basis, culminating in a final held at a neutral venue.
To be a part of the West Midlands Golf League, clubs pay an annual subscription fee that contributes to the league's administration costs. At the Annual General Meeting, each club's representative receives a full balance sheet outlining the financials of the league.
