Located in South Perth, the Western Australia Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu Association is a renowned martial arts school led by Sifu James Lui since 2005. As a not-for-profit incorporated association, the school's primary objective is to impart the teachings of Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu, Lohan Qigong, and traditional Chinese Lion Dance to its dedicated student community.
Aligned with the traditional martial values and the ethical code unwaveringly followed by the International Chan Family Choy Lee Fut, the school aspires to cultivate and preserve the rich heritage of martial arts. These values and ethics have been passed down through generations from the Founder of our style, emphasising the importance of discipline, respect, and self-improvement.
Sifu James Lui's journey in Choy Lee Fut began in 1986 when he commenced his training in Sydney under the guidance of Sifu Chen Yong Fa (). Recognising his talent and zeal for the art form, Sifu James Lui assumed the role of an instructor in 1989. In 1992, he relocated to Perth, where he brought with him the profound knowledge of traditional southern Chinese Lion Dancing theory.
The roots of Choy Lee Fut in Western Australia trace back to the 1960s when brothers Sifu David Lacey and Sifu Vince Lacey established the Buk Sing Choi Lay Fut () school in Perth. Building on this foundation, Sifu Frank Riggio, a senior student of Sifu David Lacey, assumed leadership in the early 1990s. Upon Sifu James Lui's arrival in Perth, the two masters joined forces, merging their diverse knowledge and expertise. This collaborative effort ultimately led to the establishment of the Western Australia Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu, Lohan Qigong, and Lion Dance Association, further expanding the school's scope of knowledge and offerings.
At the Western Australia Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu Association, students have the opportunity to learn and train in Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu, a comprehensive style that combines the strengths of both northern and southern Chinese martial arts. The curriculum also encompasses Lohan Qigong, a practise that combines breathing exercises and meditative movements to enhance physical and mental well-being. Additionally, the school features traditional Chinese Lion Dance, showcasing the vibrant cultural heritage of this ancient art form.
With a commitment to excellence and preserving the authenticity of Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu, the Western Australia Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu Association actively invites individuals of all ages and skill levels to experience the transformative power of martial arts.
