Hi Sports Community,
Pamela Wingfield here wants to give you a heads-up about what’s buzzing at Westbury Park Dance Centre in Bristol.
Since it kicked off in 1935, Westbury Park Dance Centre has been shaping dancers and making waves in the dance world. Originally set up by Miss Bettie Vowles, Pamela—the eldest daughter and a past student—relaunched the school in 1999. She’s the Principal now and is well-qualified under the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD).
Pamela and her team of four fully qualified dance teachers are passionate about dance and share their expertise with over 300 students, ranging from tiny tots of 3 to young adults of 21. They cover a range of dance styles including RAD Ballet, ISTD Tap, Modern, and Jazz. The school’s known for its students consistently acing their exams.
Apart from technical skills and exams, Westbury Park Dance Centre is also big on performances. They put on some spectacular shows and other smaller events throughout the year. They also get students ready for Eisteddfods, giving them a shot at showcasing their talent on a bigger stage.
Many students from Westbury Park go on to make a mark in the dance world, joining prestigious companies like the English National Ballet, Scottish and Harlem Ballet, and the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Some even become dance instructors or find work in the entertainment industry.
The school offers classes for all ages and skill levels. The little ones (ages 3-4) start with pre-school ballet, where they get a fun intro to ballet basics. From there, they move up through pre-primary and primary ballet classes, building their technique and getting prepped for their first exams.
For older kids, there are graded ballet classes from Grades 1 to 8, and vocational classes for advanced students. Tap, Modern, and Jazz classes are also on offer, from Primary to Grade 6, and advanced jazz and tap awards classes are available too.
Pamela also runs an Adult Ballet for Beginners class, perfect for parents and friends wanting to dip their toes into ballet, relax, and have a bit of fun.
Classes are held throughout the week at various spots in Bristol: St Albans Church Hall on Bayswater Avenue, Westbury Park Methodist Hall also on Bayswater Avenue, and Redland Parish Church Hall on Redland Green.
