Located in the ecologically significant bushland reserves of St Ives Chase, the Warrimoo Downhill Mountain Bike Track is a world-class, double-black diamond rated trail network. Renowned among the mountain biking community as “Crackers,” this trail offers an adrenaline-fueled downhill experience that is highly valued by riders.
Initially an informal mountain bike trail, Warrimoo was closed in 2017 by Ku-ring-gai Council to protect the Coastal Upland Swamp within the area. However, after conducting an ecological feasibility study, the council worked closely with track builders, state agencies, and the community to find a sustainable solution that allowed for the continuation of downhill mountain biking while protecting the precious bushland.
As part of the Recreation in Natural Areas Strategy, the council consulted with mountain bikers, environmental groups, ecologists, and residents to ensure that all user groups could enjoy the bushland with minimal impact. The mountain biking community collaborated with the council to construct the Warrimoo Downhill Mountain Bike Trail, and a dedicated group called the 'Moo Volunteers' continues to maintain it.
The trail consists of several sections, including a small beginner's loop. However, the highlight is the 600-metre, two-way, double black diamond rated downhill trail, which challenges experienced and skilled riders. It is essential to ride within your limits and respect your own abilities.
Trail closures may occur due to maintenance requirements or inclement weather, including rain. It is important to observe signage and avoid riding on wet trails for safety purposes.
The Warrimoo Downhill Mountain Bike Track provides riders with an opportunity to experience a world-class downhill mountain biking adventure set amidst stunning bushland. While it is an exhilarating sport, mountain biking can be dangerous, and it is crucial to prioritise safety and ride within your capabilities.
The Warrimoo track is maintained by dedicated volunteers under the guidance and support of Ku-ring-gai Council. To contribute to the upkeep of this incredible facility or other Trailcare sites, individuals can join the passionate locals by volunteering.
