Over 70s teams will compete in a round-robin style tournament. This event is a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and compete against other teams from across the country.
Walking Football Australia has been affiliated with the INTERNATIONAL WALKING FOOTBALL FEDERATION (IWFF) in England since mid-2018. Our organisation is based in Brisbane, Australia and our primary role is to organise trials and squads to represent Australia in walking football tournaments and events around the world.
While we do not claim to be the National Governing Body of walking football, we play a pivotal role in allowing players to travel to other countries and proudly represent “Australia” at all IWFF arranged tournaments. We fully acknowledge that the role of the National Governing Body will eventually be the responsibility of Football Australia when the English FA and FIFA take control of the game.
Our aim is to provide a clear path for players who wish to play at a higher level and compete against like-minded individuals from other states and countries. Over the past four years, walking football has grown in popularity in Australia, and there is an increasing demand for local and international competitions. Once international travel is possible again, our goal is to make it easier for players to transition to these higher levels of the game.
Representing your country in walking football is an exciting prospect, and we expect individuals who are considering this venture to possess high morals, respect for others, and the ability to play the game at a higher level. We value traits such as honour, pride, teamwork, leadership, and positivity in our players, as they serve as role models both on and off the field.
As part of our commitment to the growth and development of walking football, we conduct referee courses to ensure that certified referees are available to officiate matches. In 2021, we conducted two Walking Football Referee (WFR) courses, and due to the high demand, we will be running the same course again in February 2022. For more information on the courses, interested individuals can contact Alan at Football Queensland.
One of our major events is the FQ Annual QUT Cup, which will be held on April 23 this year. The tournament will feature Over 50s and Over 60s competitive divisions, as well as an Open Age Social Mixed division. We extend a warm welcome to our interstate friends to join us at this fabulous venue.
Another significant event in our calendar is the yearly trip to Nissan Arena, scheduled for February 20. The tournament format is 5 v 5, with divisions for Over 50s, Over 60s, and Over 70s teams. This event provides an exciting opportunity for players to showcase their skills and compete against teams from across the country.
Walking Football Australia is excited to be part of the walking football movement, providing opportunities for players of all ages and fitness levels to stay active, make new friends, and represent Australia on the international stage. We look forward to welcoming you to our club and sharing in this incredible journey of walking football.
