Jane Doe, the organiser of the Waihopai Rowing Club Inc., extends a warm invitation to the sports community. Established in 1887 and located at Oreti Beach, Southland, the club has built a solid reputation in rowing circles.
Jane highlights some recent milestones: the club was named the 2012 NZ Rowing Club of the Year and won the NZ Centennial Scull in the 2011-12 season for the most points in sculling events at the NZ Rowing Championships. In 2013, the club also placed fourth in the NZ Centennial Oar overall points.
Waihopai Rowing Club remains the foremost club in Southland, having secured the aggregate trophy for the most points at local regattas 34 out of the past 35 years.
The club has produced several athletes who have represented New Zealand on the international stage. Two rowers competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics, and three rowers represented at the 2012 Olympics. Further, an athlete from the club joined the 2016 NZ Rowing Under 19 (Junior) and Under 23 teams. One of the club's coaches was also selected for the Under 23 Women's Eight.
