The founder and instructor, Eric Wolven, is passionate about sharing the knowledge and principles he learned from his own teacher, Sifu Dr Tennyson Yiu. With over 34 years of experience in martial arts, Eric aims to guide his students through Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Nei Gong forms until they can practise independently.
One of the main styles taught at Vital Step is Hung Gar Kung Fu, a Southern Style martial art known for its strong stance and powerful handwork. With a focus on martial applications, students learn both the Taming the Tiger and Tiger and Crane forms, which provide a solid foundation for beginners in traditional Chinese martial arts. The ancestral practitioners of Hung Gar, such as Wong Fei-hung and Lam Sai-wing, are revered as skilled fighters and heroes in the martial arts community.
Another style offered is Tai Chi Chuan, one of the most well-known internal martial arts. Practising Tai Chi Chuan not only enhances physical fitness but also promotes balance, emotional regulation, coordination, and strengthens one's “root. ” Vital Step provides various forms of Tai Chi, including the Yang-Style Long Form (108 Form), Taoist Spiritual Tai Chi, and Chen-Style Cannon Fist. Tai Chi can be a lifelong passion, and it is said to improve one's character through dedicated practise.
