With a background in sports, including rugby union and field athletics, Matthew holds a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree from the University of Wollongong and a Diploma of Remedial Massage from Karuna College. His expertise also extends to martial arts, having trained in Hapkido and Chonjo under Korean Master Jinho Guahk, becoming the Tasmanian instructor for Chonjo in 2004.
