The vision of Venetians Netball Club is to create a platform that offers opportunities for individuals to engage with netball in a fun and inclusive environment. The club has a rich history that dates back to 1969 when it was founded by Margaret Witney and a group of friends. The original uniform consisted of a blue tunic, but as the club grew, a new and more fashionable uniform was designed, featuring vertical stripes of green, lilac, and yellow, with yellow knickers. The club name, Venetians Netball Club, was derived from a comment made by one of the club members' husbands, who likened the uniforms to outdoor canvas blinds, also known as Venetian blinds.
The leadership of Venetians Netball Club is entrusted to a dedicated committee, consisting of Sian Geldenhuys as the President, Ed Rennie as the Vice President, Jessica Black as the Registrar, Sarah Sutton as the Secretary, Linda Geldenhuys as the Treasurer, Richard Eddy as the Uniforms Coordinator, Kahlea Horton-French as the Development Coordinator, Shane Duncan as the Equipment Coordinator, Chelsea Edwards as the Media Coordinator, and Margarette Goodenough as the Fundraising Coordinator. These individuals work tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of the club and the fulfilment of its mission.
Coaching plays a significant role at Venetians Netball Club, and the club is committed to providing development opportunities for coaches at all levels. New coaches are selected as assistant coaches and are paired with experienced head coaches for their first year in the club. The club covers the accreditation costs and provides access to coaching resources, such as The Netball Coach subscription and coaching workshops like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Coaches in the Field. Coaches are also supported through mentoring, development workshops, and specialised courses, with the costs covered by the club's gold sponsorship agreement.
