Turning Pointe Dance Academy

Turning Pointe Dance Academy is a small and friendly run dance school based in New Zealand. The academy offers a range of classes in the four main aspects of dance, including Tap, Ballet, Modern, and Acrobatics. In addition to these classes, they provide further tuition in Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Singing, and more. With classes available for ages 2 and up, Turning Pointe Dance Academy believes that everyone should have the opportunity to dance, regardless of age.

At Turning Pointe Dance Academy, the aim is to provide dance training in a happy and relaxed atmosphere. The academy focuses on developing self-confidence, coordination, posture, and social skills within all their classes. All members are encouraged to take examinations in their chosen subjects, and the academy supports exams for every standard, whether for beginners or at major levels. Pupils also have the opportunity to participate in school shows, competitions, and displays.

Principal Gail Turner is the driving force behind Turning Pointe Dance Academy. With years of experience in the dance and musical theatre industry, Gail decided to open her own dance school to share her passion and expertise. She is extremely dedicated to her dance school and strives to not only teach dance skills but also foster self-confidence and motivation in her pupils. Gail ensures that even though the classes are fun and relaxed, they maintain a very high standard of performance.

She encourages all pupils to take examinations following the syllabus of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and the United Teachers of Dance (UTD). Gail takes pride in the achievements of her dancers, both past and present.

Joining Gail in teaching at Turning Pointe Dance Academy is Steph, a dedicated and talented dancer who has been with the academy since the age of 8. Steph studied at Stratford-upon-Avon College, receiving a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) with straight distinctions. She has been involved in various performance opportunities, including a curtain raiser to Matthew Bournes Swan Lake and a performance during the Olympic celebrations. Steph completed her degree in Dance at Coventry University with First Class Honours and hopes to continue teaching and performing.
