David, the organizer, would like to share some news with the sports community about Truro City Bowling Club. Situated on Kenwyn Road in Truro, the club was formally established in 1913 and currently has about 70 members, including 20 ladies. With six rinks on its green, and the ability to add a seventh, it’s a welcoming environment for both members and guests.
In the men's division, the club fields a team in Division One of the Cornwall Bowls Group Four league, and two teams in Division Two. Additionally, there are three teams in the Mining Division Bowls League: the 'A' team in the Premier Division, the 'B' in the First Division, and the 'C' in the Second Division. For the ladies, there are two teams in the Rippon League, two in the Date Cup, and one in the Evening League. Truro City Bowling Club also supports a mixed team in the Strollers League and a 2 Wood Mixed Triples League.
David highlights that the club is always on the lookout for experienced bowlers to strengthen their teams. He encourages anyone interested to get in touch with the Secretary, Captain, or Chairman for more details. During winter, the club engages in Short Mat Bowls and hosts indoor bowls and social events.
A special tradition at the club is the official opening day in April, where the Right Worshipful Mayor of Truro bowls the first wood. The club aims to provide excellent facilities and foster a sense of community among its members.
The governance of the club includes a patron, the Right Worshipful Mayor of Truro, and officers such as the President, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Executive Committee, which includes these officers plus the Match Secretary, Ladies Section Secretary, Men's Captain, Ladies Captain, and ten members, oversees the club’s operations.
David takes pride in the club's competitive success, especially the men's teams performing strongly across various leagues. The club runs three men's teams in the Bowls Cornwall Group 4 League and three in the Mining Division League.
The club organises several events throughout the season. For the 2023 season, key dates include the Season Opening Day on April 8th, Open Taster Days on April 22nd and 23rd, the Annual Barbecue on August 5th, the Presidents Charity Day (Unity Cup) on August 12th, Club Finals on September 2nd and 3rd, and the Season Closing Day on September 22nd. Important fixtures can be found on the club’s website.
David assures that Truro City Bowling Club offers a friendly atmosphere where both members and visitors can enjoy lawn bowls in Truro.
