He began his Karate journey at the age of 14 in a local club in Bedford and earned his black belt 1st dan (shodan) four years later. Currently an 8th Dan, Gursharan has participated in numerous kata and kumite events at national and international levels.
In 1984, Gursharan fulfilled a lifelong dream by travelling to Japan and training in a Japanese dojo under the guidance of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience served as a turning point in his career, inspiring him to dedicate his future to the training and teaching of Karate as a way of life. In 1993, Gursharan established his own association, TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association), which has grown to become one of the largest associations in the UK.
Gursharan's love for Karate remains strong, as he continues to teach over 35 classes a week in the UK and conduct master classes internationally. Throughout his career, he has mentored countless students of all ages, guiding them to black belt standard and beyond. Additionally, Gursharan is actively involved in charity work, providing support for surgeons to carry out operations on underprivileged children in third world countries. He has also been involved in funding projects in India, including the construction of a new school.
