Tibro's Netball Club, located within the Glass House Mountains Sports Club Precinct at 902 Steve Irwin Way in Glass House Mountains, is a thriving netball community offering opportunities for school-aged children, ladies, and mixed social competitions. With a focus on unity and teamwork, Tibro's Netball Club believes in the power of collaboration and aims to achieve wonderful things through the sport of netball.
The club's mission is to foster a love for netball from a young age and maintain that passion throughout their players' journey into the senior social competition. They strive for development and growth, providing each player and team with the best opportunity to maximise their playing potential while upholding core values of sportsmanship, respect, commitment, and club spirit.
Tibro's Netball Club has a rich history dating back to its inaugural meeting on November 10th, 1988, where Rita Savage was elected as the first club president. The club chose its name to honour Mount Tibrogargan, which overlooks the netball courts. Starting with just three senior teams playing at Caboolture, the club became incorporated in 1993 and held its first junior sign-on day in February 1994, attracting seventy-six eager young players. Training initially took place on the soccer fields in front of the Sports Club, with the courts being line-marked every Wednesday for Thursday training.
In 1996, with the help of fundraising initiatives and community support, the club relocated to its current location and constructed two asphalt courts. The club then expanded its offerings, launching a ladies competition in 2000 and a mixed netball competition in 2005. The addition of a third court in 2009 and the construction of a clubhouse in 2013 further enhanced the facilities. In 2021, Tibro's Netball Club boasted 98 junior members and fielded eleven teams in the Caloundra District Netball Association's junior competition, while the ladies competition remained popular with seven teams.
The management of Tibro's Netball Club is undertaken by a group of dedicated parents and players who take responsibility for running the club. The club holds its Annual General Meeting in September, and the Executive Committee oversees the Management Committee and the overall operations. Executive positions, including President, Secretary, Vice President, Treasurer, and Ladies Convener, rotate every second year. The Management Committee positions become vacant annually at the AGM.
The club's current Executive Committee includes Jen Lowry as President, Mary-Lou Oliver as Vice President, Bianca Wenman as Treasurer, Julie Langridge as Secretary, and Megan Scholes as Ladies Convener. The Management Committee features various roles, such as Coaching Convener, Umpire Convener, Uniform Convener, Junior Registrar, Publicity Officer, Fundraising Coordinator, and General Committee Members.
Tibro's Netball Club is grateful for the support of their sponsors, including the Glasshouse Tavern. These local sponsors play a vital role in the club's success, and Tibro's Netball Club aims to reciprocate by supporting the local community.
For those interested in joining Tibro's Netball Club, it is seen as one of the greatest opportunities to bring individuals together. Whether you are a school-aged child, a lady looking for social netball, or someone interested in the mixed social competition, the club offers a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can share their love for netball.
