Are you the owner of Tian Eng Dragon & Lion Dance Centre?

China. According to Chinese folklore, the lion dance originated with a mythical monster known as the Nian. The Nian would come out from hiding and prey on villagers, especially children, every Chinese New Year. To ward off the Nian, the villagers would create loud noises by banging drums, setting off firecrackers, and dressing in scary masks and costumes.
Over time, the villagers discovered that the Nian was afraid of the colour red and the lion dance was born as a way to scare away the monster.
