Thunder Mountain Adventures is an Icelandic Horseback Riding and Self-catering Accommodation service located in Firvale, within the territory of the Nuxalk Nation in the stunning Bella Coola Valley. Operating next to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, our adventures offer a unique and exhilarating experience in the vast wilderness of the area.
Specializing in the brave and strong Icelandic horses from Iceland, Thunder Mountain Adventures aims to showcase the beauty and versatility of this gaited breed. Known for their smooth and exciting gaits, including the unique Tlt and flying pace, Icelandic horses are ideal for navigating the rugged terrain and wild environment of the Bella Coola Valley.
Our trail rides are not your typical nose-to-tail experience. We provide private or small group rides that encourage riders to learn the basics of horsemanship in our arena before heading out, ensuring a better experience for both rider and horse. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider, our friendly and well-trained Icelandic horses will make your adventure unforgettable.
In addition to trail rides, Thunder Mountain Adventures offers lessons for both children and adults to enhance their horsemanship skills and build a strong partnership with the horses. Following Equine Canada Rider Level guidelines, our instructors focus on teaching a secure seat, correct body position, and good use of aids while fostering respect and empathy towards the horses.
