“Thunder Basketball Camp " is a basketball club located in Nunawading, Melbourne. The club offers a variety of training programmes for different age groups. The U12 (10–12 years old) programme takes place on Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 6 PM and on Saturdays from 1:30 PM to 3 PM. The U10 (7-9 years old) programme is held on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7 PM and on Fridays from 4 PM to 5:30 PM. For children aged 4–6 years old, Thunder Basketball Camp offers the U6 programme on Thursdays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM and on Saturdays from 3 PM to 4 PM.
The club also has specialised programmes such as U10 Elite on Sundays from 1 PM to 3 PM, U12 Elite on Fridays from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and U12 & U14 Rap on Sundays from 3 PM to 5 PM.
Coach Lei, also known as Coach Lei Yu, is the main coach at Thunder Basketball Camp. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Sports Training from Xinjiang Normal University and a Postgraduate degree in Sports Management from Deakin University in Melbourne. Coach Lei has a wealth of experience, including 12 years of professional team training experience and the prestigious NBCA (The NBA Coaches Association) Advanced Level certification, making him the first Chinese coach in Melbourne to achieve this recognition. He is also a registered coach with Basketball Australia and holds certifications as a fitness coach with IBFA and a referee with the Chinese National Level 2.
Coach Lei's extensive professional background includes working as a high school teacher in China, leading various school teams in training and competitions. He successfully transitioned from being an athlete to an education professional during his university study. In Australia, Coach Lei further enhanced his skills and knowledge through a postgraduate course in Sports Management, focusing on business development and leadership in sports organisations. He has served as a coach in the ABA, the largest Chinese basketball league in Melbourne, and volunteered as a coach for youth basketball training programmes.
His coaching style, characterised by humour, fun, and effective training methods, has earned him recognition and praise from both children and parents.
Thunder Basketball Camp conducts its training sessions at several excellent venues in Melbourne, including Manningham DISC, Boroondara Sports Complex, Sportlink Vermont South, Oakleigh Recreation Centre, and Nunawading Community Hub.
