Te Ngutu Golf Club, located in Normanby, is considered one of the best-kept secrets in golf and often referred to as “the jewel in the west. ” Founded in 1932 by a group of local residents, the club quickly gained popularity and boasted a closed membership of 60 keen golfers within just two months. Over the years, the course has been developed and expanded to its current state, showcasing an 18-hole layout for both men and women.
The men's course features two tee options: the Men's White Tees, measuring 5428 metres in length and with a par of 71, and the Men's Blue Tees, measuring 5558 metres long with the same par. The women's course, on the other hand, has a par of 72 and spans 4937 metres in length. Additionally, there is a full 18-hole short course available, measuring 3147 metres in length and with a par of 71.
Despite being relatively short, Te Ngutu Golf Club offers a range of challenges suited for beginners and expert golfers alike. The greens are highly regarded as some of the best in New Zealand, and the fairways are impeccably groomed. Strategically placed trees and bunkers add to the excitement and provide a picturesque backdrop against the South Taranaki rural scene.
Visitors are welcomed with open arms at Te Ngutu Golf Club, and a fully stocked golf shop is available on-site. Green fees vary depending on membership affiliation and the number of holes played. For an 18-hole round, affiliated members pay $30, while non-affiliated members pay $35. Groups of four can enjoy a round for $100.
For a shorter game, the 9-hole green fee is $20 for both affiliated and non-affiliated players. Special rates of $20 apply on Fridays, and school students can enjoy a round for $10. Additionally, golf cart hire is available at $30.
